Buenos AIRES with Ultimate Tango

Visiting Buenos Aires for tango for the first time can be quite intimidating, especially when you're still figuring out the 'tango way' of doing things. Hence, this trip can be your easy entry. A small group of familiar faces, along with friendly instructors who know you and understand your needs, will help you ease into this new adventure. Just as we do in our classes, we’ll work toward preparing you to take this trip on your own next time - confidently and without hesitation.

We’ll guide you through everything you need to know: where to take classes, which milongas to visit, how to navigate the city by Subterráneo (underground/metro/subway), and the best spots for tango shopping. Unlike a typical tango tour, we won’t stop there. We’ll also visit Teatro Colón, enjoy a traditional tango dinner show, and explore historically meaningful places like La Boca, Recoleta, San Telmo Market, and more.

Traveling with a group means you’ll feel supported and connected, making it easier to embrace Buenos Aires and its vibrant tango culture.

Open to tangueros and tangueras of all levels, this journey is designed to make your first tango experience in Buenos Aires both welcoming and unforgettable.

***The program looks packed, but don't panic - we can slow down or speed up, adjusting to the vibe, just like in tango. We want everyone to enjoy the experience at their own pace, so there’s always room for flexibility. Whether you want to dive into every class and event or take a more relaxed approach, we’ll make sure the journey fits you perfectly.

Why March?

March is an ideal time to visit Buenos Aires! As the weather transitions into autumn, the temperatures become much more comfortable, ranging between 18°C (64°F) and 26°C (79°F). This makes exploring the city’s vibrant neighborhoods and outdoor attractions more enjoyable. You can stroll through Palermo’s parks, sip coffee at charming cafés, and truly immerse yourself in the city's cultural pulse.

Tango in March is particularly special because many cultural events pick up after the summer break, and tango is at the heart of Buenos Aires' cultural revival. Take CITA…

Want to stay longer? Absolutely!

After the 10-day experience, you’ll be almost a true Porteño (a local of Buenos Aires, named after the city’s status as a port). So why not extend your stay? A great option is to immerse yourself in the incredible CITA festival—a perfect way to anchor yourself in the city's tango scene even more deeply. At CITA, you’ll find fantastic classes and renowned instructors all in one place, offering an unparalleled opportunity to keep learning and dancing. For more details, visit: https://cita.dance/.

Price: $2850 per person (double occupancy), plus the cost of your flight. Food and drinks during milongas are included, along with a welcome dinner and a goodbye dinner. For all other meals, you're free to explore the incredible culinary options that Buenos Aires has to offer on your own.

OUR POINT OF VIEW on

TAXI DANCERS

We believe hiring a taxi dancer can be an incredible experience for both leaders and followers. Taxi dancers are typically local teachers and performers, which means they are exceptionally skilled! Imagine dancing for three hours each day with someone truly amazing—by osmosis, their tango skills begin to float into you!

How does it work? The minimum booking time for a taxi dancer is three hours, which means you’ll be dancing at the milonga for at least that long. Milongas in Buenos Aires often go until 3-4 am, and we typically book taxi dancers from around 11 or 11:30 pm. So get ready for some nightlife! Instead of assigning one dancer per person, we arrange for them to rotate between participants. For example, two to four dancers might share time among four ladies. This way, you get to dance with each of them and avoid it being too obvious to others that you’re with a taxi dancer, making it more likely that others who see you on the dance floor will invite you to dance.

Please remember, a taxi dancer doesn’t dance every tanda - unless they choose to. They’re not dance machines. They need rest too. So plan for every second tanda or two tandas danced with one tanda for resting.

What if You Are a Leader? Is a Taxi Dancer a Good Idea for You?

Though it may sound surprising, hiring a taxi dancer can be an excellent experience for leaders too! Why, you ask? It can be quite challenging to get an Argentine lady to dance with you, even if she’s seen you dance. Many local dancers are selective - they won’t risk a bad experience or jeopardize their reputation, especially since Buenos Aires is their home. Without some extra help, you might find yourself dancing mostly with other foreigners, which may not be what you were hoping for.

If you want to dance with local tangueras and truly feel the Argentine spirit, we highly recommend booking female taxi dancers. With their help, you’ll improve your dancing, gain visibility, and build credibility. After a few days, word might spread about how well you dance, and soon enough, you may find Argentine ladies lining up to share a tanda with you!

Schedule

Pretty Accurate, BUT… It Might Change

Our schedule is flexible because we want to make sure you have the best experience possible. If we planned for a particular milonga but hear that there's live music from amazing groups like La Juan D'Arienzo, Romántica Milonguera, Sexteto Milonguero, Los Reyes del Tango, Herederos del Compás, Color Tango, or any other incredible band playing somewhere else—then we adjust, and we go where the magic is happening!

Another factor is the economy in Buenos Aires, which can be a bit unpredictable. This means shows might occasionally get canceled or replaced, and we adapt accordingly.

The schedule also depends on the group’s personality. Maybe we will discover that we love shopping, so we will spend more time shopping. Or maybe sightseeing becomes our thing, and we focus on that. This is a group experience, so expect some flexibility and a bit of adventure as we navigate this together!

We recommend you choose a flight that arrives in Buenos Aires between 9 and 11 am. Make sure to get some sleep during the flight because we’re diving into the experience right away! And remember—don't bring bags full of clothes; we’re going shopping! Yes, you too, gentlemen!

Day 2

PLAZA DORREGO and SAN TELMO MARKET
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

MILONGA
10pm - 2am

San Telmo boasts extremely beautiful buildings that stand as they were when they were built over a hundred years ago. In fact, the walk from Plaza de Mayo towards Plaza Dorrego is almost as rewarding architecturally as it is for day shopping. Another reason to perhaps leave the house early and take your time. If you've truly embraced everything San Telmo has to offer, you might find yourself needing an extra suitcase for the journey home—and perhaps more shelf space once you arrive. The market’s charm lies in its countless treasures, from antiques to tango shoes, making it nearly impossible to leave empty-handed.

And if you manage to lift your gaze from the endless maze of booths, you'll be rewarded with the sight of San Telmo's stunning architecture. The neighborhood is a living relic, with its beautifully preserved buildings showcasing the rich history of Buenos Aires, adding even more character to this vibrant area.

Day 3

CLASSES - ESTUDIO DINZEL

MILONGA LA CATEDRAL
11:00 PM - 3:00 AM

ESTUDIO DINZEL

Find out about Dinzel System. Learn how to incorporate it into your Tango learning journey.

The Catedral Estudio de Tango describes the Dinzel System as follows:

“The Dinzel system results from many years of observation, research, and knowledge transfer of Tango dancing, developed by Rodolfo and Gloria Dinzel.

It is a collection of the key elements that define the aesthetics of Tango Argentino. The result is a detailed technique that allows each student to build their own dynamics and their own individuality within a group.

The Dinzel system distinguishes improvisation as the dominant stone to the edifice called Tango, which allows anyone to dance freely but with respect to each other, sharing the same space and time.”

Day 4

CLASSES - ESCUELA MUNDIAL DE TANGO

MILONGA CACHIRUO EN EL BESO
11:30 PM - 3:00 AM

Escuela Mundial de Tango is the place to be if you're serious about tango. Known as a hub of tango excellence, this school offers everything a dancer could dream of—classes, seminars, practices, and more. It's a space where you can immerse yourself in tango all day long, learning from some of the most renowned maestros in the world. Whether you're just starting out or you're an advanced dancer looking to perfect your technique, Escuela Mundial has something for everyone.

MILONGA CACHIRULO

Milonga Cachirulo in El Beso is quite an experience. First - it happens in famous El Beso, which is one of the smallest (floor space wise) Milonga in Buenos Aires. But the real trick is that Leaders and Followers seat separately. There is one side where couple and guests are - that’s where we had reserved our tables and that’s what you see on the photo. Can you see Melinda, Nat and Olga and Mark on the dance floor?

The atmosphere at Escuela Mundial de Tango is electric. Surrounded by passionate dancers and guided by internationally acclaimed maestros, you’ll not only develop your skills but also feel part of the global tango community. From foundational classes that give you a strong technical base to intensive seminars that focus on nuances and musicality, this school caters to every aspect of the tango journey. The opportunity to learn from instructors who have performed and taught on international stages is invaluable, and at Escuela Mundial, every lesson pushes you toward a deeper understanding and a more refined execution of this beautiful dance.

Day 5

And those fabulous suits worn by Nito… Unforgettable. His distinctive style on the dance floor is part of what makes the experience so special. Nito’s elegance isn’t just in his dance - it’s in the way he presents himself, always impeccably dressed, adding that extra charm to every movement. It’s a reminder that tango is not only about connection and technique but also about the beauty and grace that accompany every detail.

CLASSES

NITO & ELBA’S STUDIO - CLASS
8:30 PM - 10:30 PM

MILONGA

The place where we are staying is only a couple of blocks away from Nito and Elba’s studio, so of course, we’ll make the most of this proximity! The studio of Nito and Elba is legendary in the tango world. Nito and Elba García are among the most iconic tango couples, and their studio reflects the magic, tradition, and passion they have poured into the dance over decades.

Being so close means we'll have easy access to learn from these true legends, right in their own studio. We might have the chance to join a group class taught by them or by someone who has studied under their guidance. We’ll have the opportunity to learn from masters of the traditional tango salón style—focusing on musicality, elegance, and the deep connection between partners. It’s not just about learning the steps; it’s about experiencing tango as a way of life, shaped by the warmth and wisdom of Nito and Elba.

Day 6

Let’s go shoe shopping!

SHOE SHOPPING

PRE-MILONGA & MILONGA
NUEVO GRICEL
8:00 PM to 2:00 AM

Tango shoe shopping in Buenos Aires is an adventure in itself. There’s a saying here: “There’s no such thing as too many shoes,” and it’s especially true for tango dancers. With a range of local brands, each with its unique fit, style, and craftsmanship, finding that perfect pair is a journey that requires exploration. You’ll need to try several brands to discover the one that truly ‘agrees with your feet’—the pair that makes you feel like they belong to you, almost like they’re an extension of your dance. From sleek leather to vibrant suede, and intricate designs with elegant heels, Buenos Aires has it all.

The city is filled with boutique stores dedicated to tango shoes, each offering something special. Shopping here isn’t just about buying shoes; it’s about connecting with the history and culture of tango, with knowledgeable shopkeepers who understand dancers' needs and share a passion for the craft. You’ll find yourself trying on pairs, walking around the store, testing the comfort, the support, and how they make you feel when you glide. It’s a ritual that combines practicality with the excitement of finding the perfect balance between beauty and function—shoes that make your feet look stunning while also feeling right for the hours you’ll spend dancing. And in Buenos Aires, you may just find yourself picking up more than one pair, because when it comes to tango shoes, it’s about finding those that truly resonate with your dance.

Day 7

SIGHTSEEING - RECOLETA

LA VIRUTA
From 8:00 PM till ....

8pm Bachata CLASS
9:00pm Salsa CLASS
10:30 Tango CLASS

MILONGA LA VIRUTA
12:00am – 4:00am

La Viruta is the largest and the most known Milonga. Besides concerts, milongas and excellent food La Viruta offers classes for all levels, with a simple and easy system, so that everyone can learn. 6 Teaching levels, from Beginners to Advanced.

La Viruta opened in 1994 in the Armenian Cultural Center. Since then, it’s been offering tango, salsa, rock’n’rock classes and established itself strongly on the milonga map for its friendly, slightly bohemian, no-fuss atmosphere. It is run by Cecilia Troncoso, Luis Solanas, and Horacio Godoy, a unique character in the world of tango.

La Viruta is an essential part of your milonga touring and exploring because it is so different from all other milongas. It is much more relaxed. It plays a mix of music – rock’n’roll, salsa… and therefore drives a real mix of people onto the dancefloor in terms of age and dancing ability. La Viruta claims you’ll walk in but dance out, and it’s not an empty claim…

La+Viruta+%281%29.jpg

The class we are particularly interested in is 10:30pm class with Horacio Godoy

One of the big appeal of La Viruta is Horacio Godoy, a unique character with an in-depth knowledge of tango, tango music, tango history and quirky sense of humour. His classes, when he’s in Buenos Aires, are highly recommended.

Day 8

CLASSES WITH LOCAL MAESTRO

MILONGA

Join an intensive three-hour seminar with a local maestro. Whether it's Alejandra Mantiñán, Los Totis, Hugo Mastrolorenzo, Sabrina Veliz, Facundo Piñero and Vanesa Villalba, a session at Dinzel Studio, or a musicality class with a local musician, the specific lineup is still being finalized. However, we guarantee a significant enhancement of your tango knowledge through this experience.

03/22 - Sunday

Day 9

LA BOCA
From 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM

TANGO DINNER SHOW
Esquina Homero Manzi
8:00pm - 10:30PM

MILONGA
VIVA LA PEPA
11:00 - 1:00AM

Caminito is ground zero for visitors to La Boca and is among Argentina’s top tourist destinations. El Caminto, or ‘little walkway,’ is a pedestrian street set along the old railroad lines built here in 1866. In the 1950’s local artist, Quinquela Martín and other neighbors were inspired to paint the houses with bright colors, emulating the spirit of the early immigrants to the city.

Since 1959 El Caminito has served as an open-air museum where visitors can take snaps of the colorful houses, see some street tango dancing, and purchase works of art from vendors who set up along the thoroughfare. NOTE: El Caminito is photogenic and is probably Buenos Aires’ biggest tourist trap, with overpriced restaurants and trinket shops.

We will start at Fundación Proa, an arts center that features six temporary exhibits annually, including world-renowned contemporary masters such as Marcel Duchamp and Argentina’s own Marta Minujín. The foundation also contains a library, rooftop café, and an auditorium with weekly culture-related events. READ MORE "

Dinner Show-1.jpg

Esquina Homero Manzi

We had learned about this show in Bs As Taxi from the driver. Apparently This is The Place Where Portenos go to See The Show….

Esquina Homero Manzi is one of Buenos Aires’ most historic tango venues, with a history dating back to 1927. The café where the poet, politician and film director Homero Manzi wrote his famous ‘Sur’ in 1948 now hosts a dynamic, historical and unique tango show, with music from some of the most famous artists in the history of the tango.

Before the show, we will have a delicious three-course meal giving you the chance to enjoy the taste, music and passion of Argentina all in one night.

La Boca.jpeg

Day 10

PACK AND GO HOME OR...
STAY IN BUENOS AIRES, AS NOW YOU ARE ALMOST A PORTENO*

* Locals are referred to as porteños (“people of the port”) because so many of the city’s inhabitants historically arrived by boat from Europe....

Stranded in the airport Tango meet up.jpg

Stranded in the airport Tango Meetup

Of course you know of Stranded in the airport Tango Meetup created by Steve Slavsky :-) You can dance one or to ‘strandas’ on the way home.

VERY IMPORTANT:

The plan above is just an idea—things can shift between days. If anything closes or prices change drastically, we will adjust the plans accordingly. At the moment, all the places mentioned are open, and we are actively working with organizers to negotiate the best options for our group.

Some attractions only operate on specific days—like the San Telmo Market, which is open ONLY on Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm—so you either catch it or miss out. Teatro Colón, on the other hand, is famous not only for its ballets, operas, spectacles, and concerts, but also for its breathtaking architecture. You can choose to see a show or take a tour, but we recommend attending a performance (ballet or opera), which is included in the itinerary.

If you'd like to schedule private lessons with local instructors, let us know, and we can arrange it. However, as you can see, the schedule is pretty full, so it might be better to take advantage of the planned activities now and save private lessons for your next visit. Trust us—when you come back on your own, you’ll have plenty of time to fill! With us, you may feel sleep-deprived, like you're always on the go, and that there’s barely time for anything—and that’s the point! We want to make sure your money is well-spent and your experience is rich. Of course, if you need to slow down, you’re always welcome to skip an activity or head to bed early any time you wish.

OUR TANGO PLACE

Our space is thoughtfully designed with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a shared kitchen, washer/dryer, internet, and workspace—no TV! It’s exactly how we envisioned it: perfect for tango enthusiasts stepping into Buenos Aires for the first time.
