INTERMEDIATE ARGENTINE TANGO COURSE

WHAT’s IN
Intermediate?

What is the difference between molinete and giro? The words are often used interchangeably as though they mean the same thing. And essentially they do…, but…

Molinete / code of tango

We most often call ‘molinete’ (‘windmill’ in translation) a repetitive sequence of steps usually executed by Followers around the Leader. The sequence goes: forward – side – back – side - (and again) – forward – side – back – side, etc.

Giro is a tango turn where the Follower (usually) travels around the Leader, who is also turning but essentially becomes the center of the turn. The giro can happen in place (affixed axes) or allow the couple to travel (traveling axes).

Enter at any point

Because of the repetitiveness of this sequence, it can really be started at any point and continued onward. READ MORE

Start with forward step: forward–side–back–side–forward – etc. Start with side step: side–back–side–forward–side–etc. Start with the back step: back–side–forward–side–back–etc. Start with side step: side–forward–side–back–side–etc.

It also does not have to be danced around the partner to be still called molinete.

Pattern versatility

We can find the molinete sequence in ‘Cambio de frente’ (change of fronts), Cadenas, alterations, medialuna, and of course, the giro.

As we already learn by observing the versatility of the molinete sequence, giro can be started from forward cross (or forward ocho), from the back cross (or back ocho), or even from an open step.

Giro can be danced in both parallel and cross systems. Giro comes in many shapes: triangle, square, rhomboid, or octagonal. Medialuna (half-moon) can also be considered part of the giro.

Our method

The material is precisely organized to allow maximum progress.

PLEASE NOTE: The levels are fluid. They are simply checkpoints. We will push you up if you don’t belong to this level. You don’t even have to ask. We are paying attention.

(An in-depth exploration for both leaders and followers)

Main focus:
Giros for leaders and giros exchange

Unlock the secrets of elegant rotation in this focused workshop dedicated to giros and molinete technique. Whether you're leading or following, you'll deepen your understanding of how to build dynamic, musical, and connected turns while exploring creative exchanges between partners.

Giros for Leaders & the Art of Exchange
Develop your skills as a leader through molinete with calecita variations - learning how to maintain precision while offering playful space for your partner. We'll also explore shared giros, where the turn becomes a mutual dance rather than a one-sided structure.

Sacadas within Giros
Learn how to seamlessly integrate sacadas into the circular movement, both as a leader and a follower. Discover how to invite or execute these elements without disrupting the flow, and how to use them to create powerful visual and dynamic contrast.

Additional elements:

Inside/Outside Trajectories
Deepen your technical awareness by exploring the geometry of the giro - understand the difference between inside and outside paths, and how each choice influences connection, balance, and musical expression.

Timing & Speed Control
We’ll break down what’s led and what isn’t in the molinete, and explore how to clearly communicate changes in timing, acceleration, or deceleration - essential tools for musical interpretation and connection.

Creative Changes of Direction
Transform your dance with purposeful changes of direction. Learn how and when to use them to surprise, reset, or enhance your partner’s movement without breaking flow or comfort.
